Chemistry.com Attacks eHarmony(onlinedatingmagazine.com -
November 21, 2008) Online relationship service Chemistry.com attacked its biggest competitor, eHarmony.com
saying that its settlement over same-sex matching with the State of New Jersey does not go far enough.
In a press release issued to media nationwide today, Chemistry.com stated:
"Unfortunately, those searching for non-judgmental love still won't be able to visit eHarmony to find it, and will instead be ushered off to an entirely separate site."
The reference is to eHarmony announcing it will offer gays and lesbians a new service called Compatible Partners that will open in the first quarter of 2009. The service will reside at a different Website than eHarmony even though it will say "powered by eHarmony".
"It's a shame that Dr. Neil Clark Warren's sudden acceptance came at the forced hand of the legal system," said Thomas Enraght-Moony, CEO of Match.com and Chemistry.com. "Since its inception, Chemistry.com has lived by the mantra of 'Come as You Are,' an open-minded philosophy that permeates the brand and encourages anyone and everyone to find that indescribable feeling of falling in love."
Chemistry.com has attacked eHarmony in the past over its stance at not matching people looking for same-sex partners. It did so through a TV commercial (click here).
Chemistry.com was launched in 2006 by the creators of Match.com as a way to compete head-to-head with eHarmony. Both Chemistry.com and eHarmony are considered relationship services that provide matches to users to select from versus giving them access to the whole database of members. Through compatibility tests the services match users believed to be "compatible" with each other.
This week eHarmony settled a discrimination complaint in the State of New Jersey by agreeing to open a relationship service for people seeking same-sex relationships.
